Astros, Light up the Park!
We are always looking for a special way to let Tommy enjoy his favorite time of the year! This year our daughter had mentioned that Daikin Park was hosting this Astros, Light up the Park. It looked like a cool event. Tommy loves Astros and Christmas lights so what a great combination. Plus being with our daughter and her family watching those grandbabies experience all the lights was just a bonus!
My mom had made plans to go and spend some time with my brother in Houston and we met them half way on Christmas Day afternoon after our morning festivities. On the way, I told mom about the lights and that we would be coming back to Houston the next day for that event. As we arrived at our meeting place, she began to tell my brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Beth about the event, and the look on Beth’s face just seemed like she was hiding something! LOL
We said our goodbyes, and I received a call from mom the next day. It seems that they had gotten tickets and were surprising mom to this same event! And the bonus was that it was the same day, same time and parked in the same parking lot! It was a special treat being together…
Tommy’s story
As I began to prepare him for this adventure, I showed him some of the videos that Daikin Park had used for their marketing. Just the mention of Astros, he was ready to go. Now, the hardest part was getting him out the door without his baseball and bat. He had received a new Astros shirt for Christmas but insisted on wearing one that had the players name and number on the back. He also made sure that he had his Astros hat.
The entire trip in the car there and throughout the entire walk through of the lights and even on the ride home. He kept saying “bat the ball”. He was wanting to see a game…
From previous trips and blogs, you may remember when we took him to his first game. We had no idea how he would do with the crowds and noise, but he sat the entire game holding a bat from the gift shop. So long that his knuckles were turning white. He did not care who was batting he would just cheer them on!
I know that he was a little disappointed, but you will see through out all the pictures that he loved it. Not only were the halls filled with decor and lights, they also had displays where we were allowed on field level and in dugout and the bull pin. It really was amazing. Just being down on the field looking up at the thousands of seats.
It was something that Tommy would never get to experience any other way and for that I was thrilled.
After this experience, “bat the ball” became a wish for his Birthday. He likes to go outside and play pretend ball. He will throw his own ball in the air and generally hits it every time. His request is a tee so that he can concentrate more on his swing! LOL
Birthday is in a few days, I know he will be excited… AND,
You Know There Will Be An Astros Game To Follow!
Thanks for following along. Hope you enjoyed the photos!
